Down Under Nationals 2013 Donation

Image
DUN is held ever second year, and is the Aussie equivalent to the US's NAN (though not nearly as large!) Each DUN I have donated a custom Breyer. Last time it was the classic scale Marigold, you may remember her . I donated her blank and she was painted up by Sommer Prosser Well she ended up in the hands of an Aussie, and has since gone onto live show success This time around I have customised a Breyer Clydesdale foal. Though every single surface has been resculpted, I hesitate to call him 'drastic', so I shall call him 'tweaked' instead. He is still a Clydie foal, but he has had a growth spurt, gained a new face, a few pounds and an awful lot of hair. Phineas ('cause I am huge fan of the kids cartoon Phineas & Ferb ) raffle tickets are now available through the DUN Website, which can be found here They are only $2! You could potentially own the fellow for less then I paid for his body ... BARGAIN !!! So jump in a grab some, I know I wil...

Back to work!

School holidays are finally over! Back to work. Getting time to work on anything in the school holidays with 4 children is almost impossible, but I did get a little time in. I finished the Weather Girl, she is in the USA being painted. I am really really happy with how she turned out, and I am super excited about her finish work. I also finished the Classic Arabian and the Heartbreaker commission.   Her whites were not finished here   Pretty girl   The Classic Arab suffered a lot of damage to her paintwork at Equitana, she was handled a lot, and knocked over a few times, ending in a broken ear, a few rubs and chips. So I stripped her back to bare, with the intent of painting her bay again. She however had other ideas, but more on her later. Esmerelda was finished, and went to offers on MH$P, she is also off overseas, landing in the USA soon. Hopefully out and about to some live shows. My favourite photo of her Her...

Hairy bits

Image
I had a sudden and undeniable urge to sculpt some hairy ponies. Hair has never been my thing and I have struggled with 2 dimension V's 3 dimension ...but I seem to have found my groove whilst sculpting Weathergirls tail. I was particularly pleased with my new customs feathery legs when using this method, so I thought I would share :) Step one is the armature. I cut a channel along Bluebell's crest, the exact same way as when I am doing braids (tutorial here ). Once this is done I run a wave or fin of apoxie along the groove, squished and pressing with my fingers. I want this completely random, but still following the general shape I want the mane or tail to end up. As you can see it is pretty awkward and ugly. I allow this to set completely. 3 Dimensional! Next step is the real hair. I am using Aves Apoxie Sculpt and Methylated spirits. Metho will thin Magic Sculpt as well, but gets crumbly after a certain point, whereas Apoxie Sculpt goes gooey. Th...
